Absence

ObjectSculptures
ClientExhibited at ARO Gallery 2021

Description
This work explores the beauty of a blackened landscape.

Learning to love a blackened earth after the devastation wrought by last summer's bushfires is not easy. It involves a change in aesthetic thinking to alter our appreciation of what much of the Australian landscape really looks like. Beauty is often not where we are conditioned to look but it there in the minimalism and black hollows. Black is also about renewal, fertility and regeneration.

Ultimately, the purpose of this work is to invite the viewer to discover beauty in unusual places in the landscape and question the balance of nature and intervention, deconstruction and reconstruction, human absence and presence.

ClientExhibited at Kensington st Food, Art + Design festival 2015
Date2015
DescriptionSteel life is simple in technology and function. Two sheets of aluminium welded into cushion shapes. The cushions are then attached to a base of corten steel. These soft comfy curves in metal play with our senses.

Despite the immediacy of its function , Blow Up remains intriguing; a playful visual paradox that challenges our perception of metal. A utilitarian object in every detail yet is still able to tell the story of this industrial material and its origins. Custom made to order as bench or stools.
