About

Mark O’Ryan manipulates industrial materials into objects of functionality combined with beauty and meaning. This methodology was formulated during a long career in film; the need to create an emotional, sensory connection through storytelling.

A search for beauty in humble materials and a search for balance between nature and the man made world.

Mark O’Ryan is a graduate of Sydney College of the Arts and the Australian Film TV and Radio school. A desire for more knowledge of materials and technology led to an associateship at the Jam Factory Centre for Craft and Design. A masters from COFA brought things together into a multi layered studio of art craft and design operating out of Erskineville in Sydney.

From this small studio come commissions, sculpture and small run objects that are the recipient of several grants and awards. These include a certificate of merit from the Design Institute of Australia and best new furniture design at Designex. The work has appeared in many exhibitions and publications both here and overseas.
