Description This work explores the beauty of a blackened landscape.

Learning to love a blackened earth after the devastation wrought by last summer's bushfires is not easy. It involves a change in aesthetic thinking to alter our appreciation of what much of the Australian landscape really looks like. Beauty is often not where we are conditioned to look but it there in the minimalism and black hollows. Black is also about renewal, fertility and regeneration.

Ultimately, the purpose of this work is to invite the viewer to discover beauty in unusual places in the landscape and question the balance of nature and intervention, deconstruction and reconstruction, human absence and presence.
